Here is an old (2004) photo of myself (Jason Schramm) practicing on a roof top downtown Detroit during the fourth of July fireworks. Not so much demonstrative, as it is cool looking :)www.detroityoga.com

Boat Pose / Navasana
Henry Ford said that if you divide a large task into small enough parts it'll get done easily. Apply that same theory to boat pose. Pictured here is a modified boat with the knees bent...in order to work on getting the legs straight, try doing so in small increments over weeks or months of practice. If you'd like to see a video going over keys to boat check out this link http://www.youtube.com/user/DetroitYoga#p/a/u/0/t8xpZyi_1Go

Side Crane / Parsva Bakasana
Did you know that in the 1930's & 40's about one quarter of the population of Detroit (400,000+ people) were emigrants? Detroit was the place to be!As for side crane pose...if you'd like to see a video on how to enter the posture check this link http://www.youtube.com/user/DetroitYoga#p/u/4/rK351_v1c38

Crane Pose or Bakasana
How? Some keys to this posture are...First be able to do some (lots really) push-ups and planks without grunting or wobbling:) Once you've developed some strength...a huge key to crane is tucking the legs and knees in close. See how there is almost no space between my legs and torso as well as the knees up high by my arm pits. This balances the majority of weight right above the hands and the tucking keeps the legs stuck to the arms. Keep breathing! You can check out a video of the entrance here http://www.youtube.com/user/DetroitYoga#p/u/11/ntJUGrT89kU

Down Dog
All of my dogs do this stretch when they get up from a nap. This is an awesome stretching and strengthening yoga posture! Key things to remember = Hands grounded a little wider than the shoulders (balls of the fingers down as well as the palms), Chest presses back only until you have a line from hands to up the hips, Press the legs back behind the knees until straight (may take weeks or months), once legs are straight lengthen from the hips to the heels with the feet hips width apart. So the end result will have a charge or energetic press from the hands up to the hips and over down to the heels. Full name = Downward Facing Dog Posture 0r Adho Mukha Svanasana. I hope this helps you with your yoga practice! ~ Jason

Sweet People Mover
I don't really want to talk about the people mover...other than I really like the concrete structure itself with all it's curves and what not. I steal a picture of it most every time I'm near it. That's all...it looks neat.www.detroityoga.com

Tiger Stadium
The word on the street is that the flag pole will remain and that over 90% of the stadium will be recycled. That's right....90%. Anyway...I happend to be in Corktown last summer and got some pics of half a Tiger Stadium. In with the new, out with the old.www.detroityoga.com

Wayne County Building

The lovely, Wayne County Building located at 600 Randolph Street in Downtown Detroit was constructed from 1897 to 1902. Currenty the home of Wayne County governement...however the word on the street is that they may move out over a lease dispute. Another vacant building in Detroit as a result of people not being able to get along and behave fairly? And not just any building...this one is a treasure.

Mbad Bead Museum
Today I spotted this place as I was driving up West Grand Blvd at Grand River. I don't go on this side of town much and had never seen this place before. Apparently it is a store...I'm guessing beads. The sign out back next to the giant sculpture of collected what have you says Mbad bead museum. I didn't get to go inside today...as I assumed that at 7pm on a Sunday they weren't open. But I will definitely be back! The outside of the place looked awesome! You can't see it in the picture but in addition to all of the painting on the walls there are giant shards of mirrors placed in the wall as well. Pretty neat!
